China Mobile Shopping Market Hits 11.64 Billion Yuan in Q2 2012

iResearch data shows that the GMV of China mobile shopping market reached 11.64 billion Yuan in Q2 2012, growing 487.9% over the same period of last year. Compared to Q1 2012, share of mobile shopping market in the total online shopping by GMV achieved a substantial increase to 4.3%. In mobile shopping market, Taobao Wireless, 360buy and Tencent E-commerce ranked the top three with their market share of 75.6%, 6.2% and 3.9% respectively.


GMV of China mobile shopping market grew to 11.64 billion in Q2 2012, with a year on year growth of 487.9%.


iResearch data shows that GMV of China mobile shopping market exceeded 10 billion Yuan, reaching 11.64 billion in Q2 2012, increasing 487.9% compared to the same period of last year, and 74.5% compared to Q1 2012. iResearch believes there will be a considerable increase in the number of China mobile shopping users as 3G networks and smart phones are rapidly popularized. Meanwhile, mobile shopping market was experiencing a growth spurt in Q2 2012 under the influence of sales campaigns of major e-commerce sites.



With a significant growth, mobile shopping accounted for 4.3% of the overall online shopping by GMV.


In Q2 2012, GMV of mobile shopping market reaches 11.64 billion, which accounts for 4.3% of the overall online shopping market of 268.37 billion at the same period, achieving a significant increase compared with 2.9% of Q1 2012. iResearch holds that, different from online shopping via PC, which is gradually stepping into a mature market phase, mobile shopping is in an early growth stage with a much faster rise speed. Hopefully, iResearch predicts that mobile shopping could account for over 10% of the overall online shopping by GMV in the year 2015.


Taobao had a prominent lead and Maimaibao, an independent mobile ecommerce site, ranked the fifth.


 In Q2 2012, Taobao including Taobao and Tmall Wireless Clients prominently took the lead, occupying 75.6% market share of the overall. 360buy and Tencent E-commerce ranked the second and the third, with 6.2% and 3.9% respectively. Maimaibao, an independent mobile shopping site, ranks the 5th by market share of 1.6%. iResearch thinks that the major e-commerce enterprises were actively planning and developing mobile shopping business. Their leading advantages on PC could extend to mobile terminal. Meanwhile, if Maimaibao maintains diversified competition strategy, it will continue to occupy a certain position in future mobile shopping market.
