Recent Challenges Facing the Cross-border E-commerce Industry

Amazon is the largest international foreign trade platform. It has covered consumers with strong purchasing power in developed countries and regions such as North America, Europe, and Japan. According to data from Statista, in 2020, global consumers who prefer Amazon, AliExpress and eBay to other cross-border e-commerce platforms account for 26%, 19%, and 11%, respectively. The cross-border platform industry is highly concentrated and consumer data is not circulated. As cross-border e-commerce sellers do not have all platform data, they highly rely on the data given by the platforms when carrying out promotion strategies such as advertising. Cross-border e-commerce platforms such as Amazon only manage the trading space, but also participate in the trading market. With the brand effect and convenient supporting logistics services, the self-operating platforms have the upper hand in the competition with cross-border e-commerce sellers.
